THOMAS' TRAVELS - April, 2007

England & Colombia

The first week of April I am in the Greater London area visiting friends and supporters. My good friend David Foster is a pastor in East London (Newham) and it is indeed a very challenging ministry that needs your prayers. Just a few blocks from his church the Hindu community has build the largest temple in England. A little further away, near to the place of the 20012 Olympic games, the Muslims are constructing a mosque and a village to accommodate 70,000 (I do mean seventy thousand) people. This is being done with the backing of the Lord Mayor of London.

While in East London, I will attend the monthly prayer meeting, Transform Newham. Dr. Thomas Wang, Director of the Great Commission Center International (Sunnyvale, California) will be speaking. The story of how this came about is most unusual, and shows how God orchestrates our lives. I share this for your encouragement.

In the mid 1980's I was visiting the US Center for World Missions in Pasadena California. There, I met an 85 year old former missionary to China, Mr. William Schubert, who was suffering from cancer. As we talked, I learned that brother Schubert had been a co-laborer of the renowned Chinese evangelist Dr. John Sung. (If you have never read Sungs story, I encourage you to do so. It will thrill you. ) Brother Schubert then gave me a small biography that he had written on Sung's life. Brother Schubert told me that Sung was sold out to God. Once when he was traveling, his wife moved house. When he came home, he asked, "Brother Schubert, where does my wife live?" On the flyleaf of the book that he gave me, Schubert wrote," May God bless you and use you like he did Dr. John Sung." I really felt humbled. I knelt and asked brother Schubert to pray for me. Some time later, he went home to be with the Lord.

Three years ago, I was visiting the Western Baptist Seminary in Portland, Oregon. There I met Dr. Enoch Wan. He, in turn introduced me to Dr. Thomas Wang. I had heard of him on previous occasions (Lausanne '74 and Amsterdam '83.) Now in January 2007 I had the privilege of visiting with him in his office in Sunnyvale. He told me the story of his conversion how, as an eleven year old he came to Christ under the ministry of Dr. John Sung 70 years ago and then sat under the preaching of Wang Ming Tao; I sat amazed. Brother Wang then showed me a book on John Sung's life written by the latter's sister in it she talks about William Schubert! I am one who sees the hand of God in these events. Although brother Schubert is now in glory, God is answering his prayers.

Brother Wang told me about the ministry that the Lord has laid on his heart, namely to see the nations (re)turn to God. He has already published a book, America Return to God. (You may get a free copy by emailing him at He then asked me where in Europe he could be of help in encouraging the believers to pray for a turn-around in their nation. Because of its evangelical and revival tradition, I suggested England. When I returned home in January I contacted David Foster, and that is how this trip to Newham (East London) came about. . We are praying that the whole of Britain will see a mighty move of the Spirit of God. The alternative is further moral decay and destruction.

I pray that the USA will also see an unusual move of the Spirit. As time an opportunity permits, I will give Thomas Wang a helping hand in his stateside ministry, when I am there.

My next trip to the US will be April 17-24. I will be in the Cleveland, OH area, preaching and teaching.

I want to thank you again for standing with me in this work. Reports still continue to come in from Harvest Thiruvallur of new people coming into the churches. Praise God.

COLOMBIA (South America):

Franck Alexandre had a marvelous crusade in Cartagena in February. Thousands attended the meetings and many responded to the gospel. Also God was please to confirm the Word with extraordinary miracles: What a partnership! He has asked me to join him on the next trip there in March 2008.
